Nick Matthews

Nick has been involved in transport since 1978, serving from 1978 to 1999 as a Police Traffic officer, specialising in road traffic law.
From 2003 to early 2007 he was the Logistics & Transport Manager for the UK's largest privately owned shipping company.
Since early 2007 he was the National Transport Manager for the Lavendon Group PLC, the world leader in powered access.
Leaving in August 2008 to set up his own consultancy business Transport Answers Ltd, offering his unique perspective and practical solutions gained from enforcement work and operating transport as a profit industry.
Currently an Ambassador for the Freight Best Practice program, through which advice is given to the transport industry to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.

David Batty

David has been in the transport industry for 45 years. He is the engineering
director of BATNEEC Development Services, he has been the innovator of several
tractor and trailer designs, and he has been a finalist on four occasions at the
Motor Transport awards, and the winner in 2007 of the service to industry award.
He is an active member of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the
Institute of Mechanical Engineers events committee..

Terry O'Brien

Terry is a commercially aware Transport Engineer with professional qualifications. Currently Contract
Fleet Manager for Pullman Fleet Services Ltd, he has worked for Somerfield Stores Ltd as Assistant Fleet
Engineer and for both Jaguar & Ford.
Terry is registered with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer; is a Member of the Society of Operations
Engineers (IRTE Division) and has an HNC in Vehicle Engineering.

Andrew J. H. Davis

Andrew has diesel in his blood, having been brought-up in a family transport business in Gloucester.
The experience of a small business enables Andrew to have a large degree of empathy with the thousands
of operators in the UK. Maintaining cost-effective and adopting "best-practice" standards has been a
constant theme throughout Andrew's career and this is his focus for the Carlsberg LogEx roll-out.
Andrew was previously the General Manager for Palletline plc based at the Birmingham hub. Before that,
Andrew worked for different PLCs in a variety of fleet engineering and operational roles, including Bass
Brewers and Transport Development Group and Lane Group PLC. Andrew is an Incorporated Engineer, Member of
Society of Operating Engineers and Chartered Member of Institute of Transport.

Pauline Dawes

Pauline has a passion for transport efficiency. She left school at 16 and worked in the university of life in Customs at Immingham dock, in logistics and retail operations until 1998 when, after being stuck on a Caribbean Island whilst the volcano erupted, she decided to 'get an education'. Following A levels, she won a place at Cambridge and then did a full time MBA at Manchester Business School.
Whilst there Pauline established SOMI Trailers Ltd. where she is Managing Director.
Since then the company has won several awards.
She also assists her family business developing industrial estates and large building projects such as RDC's.
Pauline is fascinated by engineering and operations management and likes to get involved in all aspects of R&D, production and customer relations. 'I really enjoy working in this industry, there are some great people with good ideas and lots of skills that seem to go unnoticed by society. My hope is to be useful to BTAC members by using my skills and experience to share good ideas that lead to profits, savings and eco- benefits.'

David Payne

David currently runs his own business that offers varying specialist services to fleet operators.
For a number of years he worked for a major fleet operator as distribution services manager and is
time served in the traditional sense of the word.
David is currently an Incorporated Engineer, Member of Society of Operating Engineers, Member of the
Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics and a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry.
